Fall 2026 Trends You Can Shop Secondhand
Fall 2026 is one of those seasons where the runway and the resale rack actually agree. Designers showed rich velvet, deep reds, soft suede, enveloping shapes and a lot of polished denim, and nearly every one of those trends is easy (and much cheaper) to find secondhand. Here are the trends I'm watching this fall, with pieces from my own closet if you'd like to try them without paying full price.
1. Moody Maroon & Deep Reds
Burgundy, oxblood and deep wine shades are the color story of the season, a darker, more romantic alternative to spring's bright brights. If you want one piece that says fall 2026, make it a deep red. A velvet jumpsuit does it in one move: add a black blazer or leather jacket and pointed boots for a night out, or strappy heels for a holiday party.
2. Velvet, Everywhere
At New York Fashion Week, figure-skimming velvet dresses were paired with sharp leather pieces for a slightly gothic, grown-up look. Velvet feels festive heading into the holidays and photographs beautifully. Secondhand tip: zoom in on listing photos when you buy velvet. The pile should look even, not shiny or crushed in patches.
3. Suede & Earthy Outerwear
Leather bombers in olive, chocolate and espresso were a major outerwear story, and suede showed up in belts, gloves and jackets. A drapey suede jacket in a warm neutral is the easiest way in. It works over jeans, a turtleneck, or even a summer maxi dress.
4. Cocooned, Cozy Shapes
Oversized sleeves and rounded, wrap-you-up silhouettes are everywhere this season. The easiest real-life version is a poncho: throw it over a fitted turtleneck and skinny jeans with knee boots and you're dressed.
5. The Belted Waist
Statement-buckle belts are one of the season's micro-trends. Cinching the waist is the fastest way to make a relaxed piece look deliberate, and a belted jumpsuit already does the work for you.
6. Denim Meets Feminine Tailoring
Boxy jackets and polished, slim tailoring are back, and denim is being worn well past summer. A denim blazer bridges the two. It's structured enough for the office and casual enough for the weekend. A longer denim jacket gives you the same effect with more coverage for cooler days.
7. Jewel Tones: Royal Purple & Chartreuse
Rich purple, from aubergine to amethyst, and zesty chartreuse showed up on many runways. It's an easy trend to test in small doses first: a scarf, a bag, a pair of gloves, or even a nail color before you commit to a whole outfit.
The best part of shopping trends secondhand is that you get the look for a fraction of the price, and if you're over it next year you can resell it. You'll find everything I currently have listed on my Shop My Closet page.
